Estate Planning Law Specialist - National Association of Estate Planners & Councils

Cheryl David began her career in law as a litigator, switching her emphasis to estate planning after an event that changed the way she looked at life. In 1996 she was chosen by famed trial attorney Gerry Spence to attend his Trial Lawyers College in Wyoming. While at the college, she spent six weeks learning the art of litigation from the greatest trial attorney in the country, honing her skills, and ultimately zeroing in on what she wanted to accomplish in life. It was then that she realized that while she enjoyed the fast pace and challenge of trial work, she disliked the time it took away from her family and personal life. Shortly thereafter, Ms. David decided to have a third child and shift her focus exclusively to estate planning, an area of the law that she always had been drawn to and felt would afford her the opportunity to truly help others.

Experience

Born into a family of attorneys, (her grandfather was an estate planning attorney and her father continues to practice law), Ms. David finished law school in 1986, and then went to work for a Baltimore litigation firm. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission later hired her as a Federal Judge to hear discrimination cases against the government. In 1989 she established a general practice with two other attorneys. Two years later, she and one of her partners left and opened their own practice.

Ms. David continued to work with a partner for the next four years and then founded the Law Offices of Cheryl David in 1995. She concentrates exclusively on estate planning and devotes herself to providing unmatched legal advice and services to her clientele. A member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, Ms. David also belongs to the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

Education

Ms. David received a BA from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She then obtained her Juris Doctor at the University of Baltimore Law School where she was president of the Moot Court Team and did pro bono work for the elderly and the indigent. As mentioned above, Ms. David is a graduate of the Trial Lawyers College presided over by Gerry Spence. Cheryl David, through her exclusive membership in the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys takes in excess of 36 hours of Continuing Education in Estate Planning and Taxation each year. Cheryl also has procured her Series 7, Series 66, Insurance and Long Term Care/Medicare designations.
